About me
I’m Ross Gledhill and I’m a freelance web developer/designer based in Glasgow, Scotland. I fell in love with web development after working on a website for our local football team. That was over 6 years ago now, and I’ve been doing it professionally since 2008.
Freelance Website Designer & Developer 2008 – Present
I enjoy freelancing and experimenting on mini web projects in my spare time. This is a great way for me to get to grips with various technologies that I might get the chance to use during office hours. When it comes to my freelance work, my Content Management System of choice is usually WordPress, as in my opinion it has the best community of developers. I’m also familiar with MODx and Drupal, and there are of course times when these Content Management Systems are the right tool for the job.
As well as the technology side, I also have a keen interest in digital marketing. When I work on a website, I try my best to help my client step back, and look at the bigger picture. Why do you want a website? How will your website provide a ROI, and how will we measure it’s success? These are all very important things that I try and help my clients to consider before a project even starts.
I’m always looking for new projects. If there is something you would like me to help with, please get in touch for a free quote/consultation.
Gael Ltd, Senior Development Engineer, October 2010 – Present
After my time at The Youth Group, I joined Gael Ltd, a software company in East Kilbride. I now work for Gael as a senior development engineer, working primarily on the front-end of a ASP.NET MVC3/Backbone.js/jQuery CQRS application. This is great fun to work on, and various aspects such as the Asynchronous UI provide me with new challenges on a daily basis.
The Youth Group, Web Developer, May 2009 – Sept 2010
After university, I started as a web developer for a London-based agency called The Youth Group. The Youth Group specialised in student advertising and health & welfare awareness websites/web applications. During my time at The Youth Group, I was lucky enough to produce work for some big name clients including Microsoft, Apple, NHS Grampian, JP Morgan, NHS Swindon, MBARC and Kent Special Needs Schools.
Strathclyde University, 2005-2009
In 2009, I acheieved a 2:1 BSc Honours Degree in Computer Science at Strathclyde University. From my degree I learned a lot about the software development process, design patterns, architectures and frameworks, and all of this provided me with a solid foundation to build upon.
And finally…
